Actor John Ambrosino ’01 has a lead role in the production of On the Town<\/em> at Boston’s Lyric Stage, May 10 to June 8.<\/p>\n

Ambrosino, who has the role of Gabey (Gene Kelly’s part in the 1949 film version of the Broadway play), tells Boston Spirit Magazine<\/em> blog that while he recalls being “enthralled by the performances\u201d\u00a0 when he watched the movie as a boy, no one should expect him to channel Kelly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to stay away from the movie now and let [director] Spiro [Veloudos] lead us down the road.”<\/p>\n

Thus far, media reviews of the play have been positive.<\/a><\/p>\n

Ambrosino says the Lyric is taking an \u201cawesome artistic risk\u201d\u00a0<\/em>by staging the play that was first produced on Broadway in 1944. \u201cIt\u2019s so infrequently done because it\u2019s a difficult show to do,\u201d says Ambrosino.<\/p>\n
