“Katahdin No. 4” is a drawing made circa 1940 by Marsden Hartley.<\/p><\/div>\n

Featuring such renowned artists as Marsden Hartley and John Marin, the exhibition\u00a0Encountering Maine<\/em> opens at the Bates Museum of Art with a reception at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7.<\/p>\n

Drawn from the Museum of Art\u2019s permanent collection, the exhibition will be on display at the Bates museum through Oct. 12.<\/p>\n

“Light in Brook” is a 1985 oil painting by Neil Welliver, on display in\u00a0Encountering Maine<\/em>.<\/p><\/div>\n

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, but until 7 p.m. Wednesdays during the academic year. Admission is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
