(Phyllis Graber Jensen\/Bates College)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Frank Glazer, a pianist of international renown, performs five sonatas by Beethoven, including some of the composer&#8217;s best-loved, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in Bates&#8217; Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.<\/p>\n<p>Admission is $15, available at <a href=\"http:\/\/batestickets.universitytickets.com\/user_pages\/event_listings.asp\">batestickets.com<\/a>. A limited number of free tickets will be available for seniors 65-plus and students starting Oct. 8 at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/o\/olin-arts-center-4643338427\">bit.ly\/oacbates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please contact <a href=\"mailto:olinarts@bates.edu\">olinarts@bates.edu<\/a> or 786-6163.<\/p>\n<p>The 99-year-old Glazer, of Topsham, has had a distinguished career that includes numerous recordings, solo recitals and performances with orchestras and chamber ensembles. A student of Artur Schnabel and Arnold Schoenberg, he is at home in every style of music from Bach to contemporary.<\/p>\n<p>His program comprises these Beethoven sonatas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 (&#8220;Path\u00e9tique&#8221;);<\/li>\n<li>No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31, No. 2 (&#8220;Tempest&#8221;);<\/li>\n<li>No. 21 in C major, Op. 53 (&#8220;Waldstein&#8221;);<\/li>\n<li>No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2 (&#8220;Moonlight&#8221;);<\/li>\n<li>and No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57 (&#8220;Appassionata&#8221;).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Glazer has been an artist in residence at Bates since 1980. He has concertized in more than 24 countries; appeared on his own television show; made more than 50 recordings and performed 30 world premieres. He was a founding member of the Eastman Quartet, the Cantilena Chamber Players and Maine&#8217;s own New England Piano Quartette.
