The Bates College Board of Trustees selected Erik Jarnryd \u201987, P\u201917 and Mark Mandel \u201989 as new members during its October meeting. Jarnryd is chairman and CEO of Harvey Building Products in Waltham, Mass. Mandel is the director of global industry research at Wellington Management.<\/p>\n

Bates Trustee Erik Jarnryd ’87.<\/p><\/div>\n

Jarnryd has served in his current role at Harvey Building Products since 2007. Prior to that he led the company\u2019s brand promotion, new product development and geographic expansion as its vice president of strategic planning. Harvey Building Products employs 1,200 people and has manufacturing facilities, warehouses and branches across New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

At Bates, Jarnryd majored in economics and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree. He also has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.<\/p>\n

Jarnryd previously worked at Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman) where he helped lead strategy projects for global corporations as well as government privatization projects in Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Uruguay.<\/p>\n

Since graduating from Bates in 1987, Jarnryd has stayed active with the college by working with the Garcelon Field Project Committee and the Mount David Society committee. He has also participated in several Boston Bates Business Network events.<\/p>\n

Jarnryd is the treasurer of the Bacaanda Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps bring dental care, schools and sustainable agriculture to communities in rural Mexico. He grew up in Sweden and Mexico and is fluent in four languages. Jarnryd lives in Concord, Mass., with his wife, Susanne \u201987, and their three children, Andrew \u201917, Anna and Lily.<\/p>\n

Bates Trustee Mark Mandel ’89.<\/p><\/div>\n

As director of global research industry research at Wellington Management, a Boston-based investment management firm, Mandel leads Wellington\u2019s efforts to attract, retain and motivate world-class securities analysts and investment talent.<\/p>\n

Mandel\u2019s team consists of 100 investment professionals who manage nearly $100 billion of client assets. He has held his current position since 2002, having previously worked as a global industry analyst following non-bank financial services. Mandel is also a member of several of the firm\u2019s committees, including the compensation committee, for which he serves as chair.<\/p>\n

Mandel graduated from Bates with a degree in economics in 1989. Since leaving Bates, he has been involved with the Boston Bates Business Network and was a nontrustee member of the board\u2019s Investment Committee. He earned an M.B.A. in 1994 from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where he was also an Amos Tuck scholar, an award given to the top 15 percent of each graduating class.<\/p>\n

Mandel and his wife, Michele, have three sons, Charles, Owen and Ellis. They live in Dover, Mass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
