They are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kate Moody &#8217;17<\/strong>, a neuroscience major from Charlottesville, Va., will work with a team using functional magnetic-resonance imaging and behavioral data analyses to investigate the individual level-specificity of face-selective areas in the brain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunctional imaging produces a great deal of data that needs to be sifted and processed, so the internship will give me an opportunity to hone my programming and mathematics skills,\u201d she said. He hopes to attend graduate school after Bates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jia-Ahn Pan &#8217;16<\/strong>, a chemistry and mathematics double major from Kuching, Malaysia, will conduct research at the University of Hamburg in the field of physical chemistry and nanotechnology.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, he will focus on the fabrication of novel polymeric nanostructures with hard templates.Pan credits Bates professor Matt C\u00f4t\u00e9\u2019s hands-on chemistry lab as a key reason he was awarded this internship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBates provides the necessary foundations and lab skills for science students who wish to go further into research,\u201d Pan said. \u201cThis internship will be a valuable experience, as I will be exposed to a new project using different methods and instruments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pan plans to study chemistry and material science in graduate school.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_95874\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2015\/07\/141212_Lucia_De_Rose_14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-95874\" class=\"wp-image-95874\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2015\/07\/141212_Lucia_De_Rose_14-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Lucia De Rose '16 of Parada Robles, Argentina, is one of five 2015 recipients of a RISE internship in Germany.
