(Josh Kuckens\/Bates College)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>Sun Journal<\/em> reporter Tony Blasi <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunjournal.com\/news\/local-sports\/2016\/02\/25\/college-swimming-paiones-finishing-touch\/1878461\">profiles Auburn native and Bobcat swimmer Melissa Paione<\/a> &#8217;16, writing that after graduation it will be &#8220;impossible&#8221; for her to &#8220;turn her back on the water where so many fond memories were made \u2014 and records broken.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Blasi asks, &#8220;what\u2019s next for the psychology major after four successful years as a Bates swimmer?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am going to be open to a master&#8217;s program,&#8221; Paione says. &#8220;Just going to stay in touch with the water. (Ann Beha Architects)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The story, \u201cA New Gateway for a Historic Campus,\u201d written by Joshua Aisenberg of the project architect Ann Beha Architects, says that opening two new residences this fall goes far beyond adding beds.<\/p>\n<p>The project will offer \u201ca new gateway,\u201d for the southeast part of the campus, \u201cone which not only celebrates\u201d the arrival of new students in the fall but also \u201canchors the residential life of the campus community.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Paul MacAvoy &#8217;55<\/h3>\n<h5><a href=\"http:\/\/poetsandquants.com\/2016\/02\/29\/former-som-simon-dean-dies\/\">A &#8220;feisty economist&#8221; and builder of business schools<\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/poetsandquants.com\/2016\/02\/29\/former-som-simon-dean-dies\/\"> \u2014 Poets &amp; Quants<\/a><\/em><\/h5>\n<div id=\"attachment_99801\" style=\"width: 232px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2016\/03\/MacAvoy-copy.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-99801\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99801\" class=\"wp-image-99801 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2016\/03\/MacAvoy-copy-222x300.jpg\" alt=\"MacAvoy copy\" width=\"222\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2016\/03\/MacAvoy-copy-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2016\/03\/MacAvoy-copy-148x200.jpg 148w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2016\/03\/MacAvoy-copy.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-99801\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The late Paul MacAvoy \u201955 was the Williams Brother Professor Emeritus at Yale and former dean of the Yale School of Management.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The economics world took notice of the Feb. 24 death of Paul MacAvoy \u201955, the Williams Brother Professor Emeritus at Yale and former dean of the Yale School of Management.<\/p>\n<p>From 1980 to 1991, as dean of the Simon School of Management at the University of Rochester, MacAvoy helped \u201cput the business school on the map,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/poetsandquants.com\/2016\/02\/29\/former-som-simon-dean-dies\/\">writes\u00a0<span class=\"author vcard\"><span class=\"fn\">John Byrne for Poets &amp; Quants.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The school was \u201csmall and virtually unknown in the business community,\u201d and MacAvoy built on the \u201cfaculty\u2019s dedication to market economics\u201d to cultivate \u201cone of the best economics-trained faculty of any business school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Byrne calls MacAvoy a \u201cfeisty economist,\u201d a one-time adviser to George H.W.
