Heritage & History Experiences

The Office of Intercultural Education supports, and celebrates the cultural heritage and history of underrepresented and minoritized populations. The Heritage & History Experiences aim to create supportive, and inclusive community around cultural education while revealing the realities that underrepresented and minoritized populations have undergone worldwide.

September: Latina/o/x, Chicana/o/x, Hispanic Heritage & History

Latina/o/x, Chicana/o/x, Hispanic heritage is celebrated nationally from September 15 – October 15 each year.

October: LGBTQIAP2+ History & June: LGBTQIAP2+ Pride

LGBTQIAP2+ history is celebrated throughout the month of October nationally. LGBTQIAP2+ Pride is celebrated throughout the month of June nationally each year, and is recognized during the academic year at Bates with a week of programming in May.

November: Indigenous, Native American Heritage & History

Indigenous, Native American heritage is celebrated throughout the month of November nationally.

February: Black, African American Heritage & History

Black, African American heritage is celebrated throughout the month of February nationally.

March: Women’s History

Women’s history is celebrated throughout the month of March nationally.

May: Asian, Pacific Islander Heritage & History

Asian and Pacific Islander heritage is celebrated throughout the month of May nationally.
