Registration for Fall Courses and Academic Advising
Dear Class of 2023,
Welcome to Bates!
Fall course registration is accessed through the Garnet Gateway between July 15th and July 19th. Within this time frame, you will enter your preferred fall courses and a few alternates into the registration system. You can find more information about the registration process by visiting the Registration Overview website. The staff in the Registrar’s Office is happy to assist with registration questions. Summer Faculty Advisors will also be available to talk through course planning and questions the weeks of July 8th – 12th and July 15th – 19th (during registration). Their schedule of availability can be found on the Academic advising and Registration website for new students.
1) Request your preferred courses and alternates
July 15th, 10:00 a.m. EST – July 19th, 4:00 p.m. EST
Log in any time during the registration period, and select your preferred 4 courses and at least 4 alternate courses, including multiple FYS alternates.
Choosing a First-Year Seminar
Enrolling in a first-year seminar is strongly encouraged. You will have the opportunity to take a small-sized course designed for first-year students, and the instructor of your seminar will also be your academic advisor. First-Year Seminars also satisfy your first-year writing, [W1], requirement.
2) Review Your Fall Schedule
Beginning August 15th
Between July 22nd and August 15th, the Registrar’s Office will assign students into the courses they requested, randomly assigning students into the spaces in limited courses. You may then view the results of randomization, and see which courses you gained entrance to beginning August 15th by logging into the Garnet Gateway and looking at your “View Course Schedule” page. This shows your current schedule after limited courses have been randomly filled. If you are happy with this schedule, you are done!
3) Adjusting your Schedule (Add/Drop)
September 3rd, 7:00 a.m. – September 17th
If you need to make changes to your schedule or add additional courses, Add/Drop is on a first-come, first-served basis and will open for all students on Tuesday, September 3rd at 7:00 a.m. You will have a chance to meet with your advisor during Orientation prior to add/drop opening.
