Habitat for Humanity (Level 1)

Habitat for Humanity Leaders: Kai Lindsey and Annie Kandel

Hi I’m Kai, the one with the purple teddy bear shirt. I come all the way from Colorado Springs, Colorado which a little bigger than Bates. My parents still don’t know Bates was my first pick college because I thought I wouldn’t get in. They’re also letting me become a senior this year (I dunno why). In my free time I also obsessively play janky phone games. That’s it. They let me walk onto the swim team freshman year, and I’m surprised I’m still a member. I’m currently studying abroad in Sri Lanka so hopefully I’ll have some stories to tell on AESOP. That’s a lie, I have a ton of stories to tell on AESOP, you’ll regret not hearing them.

Hi everyone! I’m Annie R. Kandel from a town in Mass smaller than Bates, so I won’t name it (jk, it’s Pelham). They’re letting me become a senior this year, and I only chose chemistry as my major because I hate bio. In my free time I figure skate, play egg farming games on my phone, and watch the Young Pope. My favorite shirt that Kai owns is purple and has a ghost teddy bear pulling it’s head off. It’s cute I swear. This summer I sold out and took an internship in chemical industry workin with petroleum additives. I’m on campus for second semester, but I’m already looking forward to coming back for AESOP in the fall!

Start your College Career of by doing something of which you can be truly proud. The Habitat for Humanity AESOP trips will work on projects in the Lewiston/Auburn and Bath, ME areas. These trips will camp out of Range Pond park for the Lewiston/Auburn project or Thomas Point Beach for the Bath project. Get to know and provide great service to the local community by helping build houses for people in need! You will be able to explore and get to know your home for the next four years all while doing a great service on these trips.

Lewiston Service Trip (Level 1)

Lewiston Service Trip I Leaders: Margaret Trombly and Randy Peralta

Are ya there first-years? It’s me Margaret! I’m a senior (SOS) and official BFF of Randy. I’m a Gender and Sexuality Studies major and a Chemistry minor, so if you wanna talk about feminism and/or reaction mechanisms, I’m your gal! I’m currently studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark where I’m eating a lot of butter and meeting a lot of prostitutes (learning can be wild!). Feeling lost on campus? My tour guide skills will lead you to salvation! (Or more likely to commons/frisbee practice/lib). Get pumped for Lewiston Service 1!!!!

Hey new Bobcats! My name is Randy and I am the shorter half of the Lewiston Service 1 trip. When Margaret and I combine our powers we form the superhero duo called el Cocinero Súper Papa(Chef super Potato). Find me in commons every Wednesday morning trying to set a new record for hash browns eaten before I have to be escorted out. I am a senior Psychology/Philosophy double major. I love ultimate frisbee and songs by Aventura. Ask me about the time I tried to serenade someone who was 3 years older;)

Lewiston Service Trip II Leaders: Madison Shipler and Chris Bierwirth

Hello beautiful first years, My name is Madison Shipler, Mads for short, and I from Annapolis Maryland. I am a current sophomore here at Bates who enjoys skiing, hiking, art, whales, smooth jazz and sailing, which is way cooler than club soccer. I co-host a radio show at WRBC, Bates’ College Radio station and am a member of the Bates College sailing team. I am currently undeclared, but I am leaning towards being a Sociology and Visual Arts double major. Some fun facts about me are that I can fit into the dryers in both Parker and Rand hall, I sing Paul Simon (You Can Call Me Al is a personal favorite) in the shower and sleep comes so naturally to me that I can do it with my eyes closed. Chris and I are very excited to meet each and everyone of you and cannot wait for you guys to be a part of the fun and rewarding adventures we will have on our Aesop!!

Hey-yo I’m Chris Bierwirth, Chris for short, and I am from the South Shore of Massachusetts. When I’m not cruzin’ through the suburbs, I’m a sophomore at Bates, usually found in the library (shoutout to my mom), spending way too long at Commons, or (rarely) working out in Merrill. Sometimes I play club soccer, basketball, climb, ski, and co-host a radio show at WRBC. I am considering an Economics major with a Chemistry minor. Some fun facts about me are; I was voted Second Most Artsy in high school, I know every word to See You Again by Miley Cyrus, and I once convinced myself that I was cursed after two of my friends broke their wrists (in front of me) within two days. I’ve been heavily involved in community service trips since I was young, and hope to inspire you guys to do meaningful work during our trip and continue on after (and hope to be inspired as well!).

The Lewiston Service trip is a great opportunity to learn about the greater community, and get to know Lewiston-Auburn. Along with partnering with organizations in the community, this trip will be exploring the area in the afternoons with possibilities like day hikes, swimming at Range Pond and canoeing on the Androscoggin River.
