Recommend Our Big Idea for 2020

Our Big Idea is the first common experience that new students share at Bates.  Students immerse themselves in the selection within their initial days on campus while learning, growing, and having conversations with their peers.  New students engage in discussion with their First Year Seminar professors during Orientation and further their understanding of the selection throughout the first semester with extracurricular opportunities.  This year’s Our Big Idea theme is Communicate: Keep Listening, Keep Talking.

We actively seek wide participation across the Bates community (students, faculty and staff) for suggestions for Our Big Idea 2020. These suggestions can span a wide range of reading, viewing and listening experiences that entering students might be requested to consider.

To make a suggestion, please follow the link to the nomination form below. A committee of members of the First Year Experience planning team will review all the suggestions and recommend a short list to the Student Affairs Committee who will make the final selection.
