Stay on top of the summer to-do list—for you AND your student!

Hi Bates Families,

Summer is in full swing, and we’re here to assist as you help your student stay on top of what’s ahead. Below are a few important updates that the First-Year Experience team shared with students and some reminders for you.

Bobcats in the Wild

Whether you’re three miles or 3,000 miles from campus, you can connect with Bates all summer long. Show your Bobcat pride by printing Bates lawn signs, or register to attend a Summer Welcome Reception and meet other Bates students and families in your region. Additional events will be announced soon for Washington D.C., Denver, Dallas, and the West Coast!

Bates Email Becomes Primary on June 9

Starting June 9, all student communications from the First-Year Experience team will be sent exclusively to your student’s Bates email address. Now is a great time to encourage your student to check their Bates inbox regularly. You will continue to hear from our team via email.

First-Year Forms and Lyceum Module #1 Now Available

A variety of important forms—regarding housing, health, and more—became available through the student portal of the Garnet Gateway on Tuesday, June 3. View the full schedule. Additionally, students now have access to the first Summer Resources Lyceum moduleWelcome and FYE Values.

Upcoming Virtual Meetups for Students

The First-Year Experience team is offering a series of optional virtual summer meetups for incoming students. These informal Zoom gatherings are a great way for students to begin building community with current students and professional staff while learning about life at Bates—even before they arrive on campus. While these meetups are designed just for students, we encourage you to support your Bobcat in attending any sessions that speak to them.
