Description: The Lesbian Health Fund (LHF) was established in 1992 to define, study, and educate lesbians and their health care providers about lesbian health issues. Description: Invites applications from investigators from diverse populations with interest in research projects focused on the basic biology of cancer. The purpose is to improve the diversity of the research workforce by supporting and recruiting eligible investigators from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented. This initiative will also provide a bridge to investigators that have completed their training and may need extra time to develop a full RO1 proposal. The NCI expects efforts to diversify the workforce to lead to the recruitment of the most talented researchers from all groups; to balance and broaden the perspective in setting research priorities; and to increase basic cancer researchers from diverse backgrounds.

Description: This initiative is designed to stimulate research that targets the reduction of health disparities among children. For purposes of this initiative, health disparities apply to children who have limited access to resources and privileges that impact their health. As such, this initiative includes a focus on ethnic and racial minority children and populations of underserved children to include: children from low literacy, rural and low-income populations, geographically isolated children, hearing and visually impaired children, physically or mentally disabled children, children of migrant workers, children from immigrant and refugee families, and language minority children.

Application for Joint Middle East and Africa – U.S. Cooperative Research Grants – U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation
Description: The goal of this grant competition is to facilitate the development of international collaborative research proposals in one or more areas of Blindness and Impaired Vision and to foster high-quality and innovative research and development in the vision field in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) regions. These grants will provide one-year’s support, with the possibility of a no-cost extension if justified, to research teams of scientists from the selected countries/regions. While not a requirement, collaboration with a U.S. researcher is preferred and strongly encouraged. It is anticipated that the research implemented through these awards will lay the foundation for future grant proposals to the National Eye Institute and other funding agencies that support blindness and impaired vision research around the world.

Description: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) encourages the submission of research project grant applications from institutions/ organizations that propose to: (1) improve the measurement of racial /ethnic discrimination in health care delivery systems through improved instrumentation, data collection, and statistical/analytical techniques; (2) to enhance understanding of the influence of racial/ethnic discrimination in health care delivery and its association with disparities in disease incidence, treatment, and outcomes among disadvantaged racial/ethnic minority groups; and (3) to reduce the prevalence of racial/ethnic health disparities through the development of interventions to reduce the influence of racial/ethnic discrimination on health care delivery systems in the United States (U.S.)

Description: Health disparities between (1) racial/ethnic populations, (2) lower socioeconomic classes, and (3) rural residents, and the overall U.S. population are major public health concerns. Emphasis is placed on research in and among three broad areas of action: (1) public policy, (2) health care, and (3) disease/disability prevention. Particular attention is given to reducing health gaps among groups. Proposals that utilize an interdisciplinary approach, investigate multiple levels of analysis, incorporate a life-course perspective, and/or employ innovative methods such as system science or community-based participatory research are particularly encouraged.

Description: The NIH recognizes a unique and compelling need to promote diversity in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences research workforce. The NIH expects efforts to diversify the workforce to lead to the recruitment of the most talented researchers from all groups; to improve the quality of the educational and training environment; to balance and broaden the perspective in setting research priorities; to improve the ability to recruit subjects from diverse backgrounds into clinical research protocols; and to improve the Nations capacity to address and eliminate health disparities. This FOA issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), solicits applications to increase the number of highly trained investigators, from diverse backgrounds or who have experienced an interruption in their research careers. It is targeted toward individuals whose basic and clinical research interests are grounded in the advanced methods and experimental approaches needed to solve problems related to cardiovascular, pulmonary, and hematologic diseases in the general and health disparities populations. Description: The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to promote innovative, interdisciplinary research that will advance new concepts in women’s health research and the study of sex/gender differences. Recent research reports have established the importance of studying issues specific to women, including the scientific and clinical importance of analyzing data separately for females and males. ORWH is particularly interested in encouraging extramural investigators to undertake new interdisciplinary research to advance studies on how sex and gender factors affect women’s health; however, applications in all areas of women’s health and/or sex/gender research are invited.
