Follow this link <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/communications-marketing\/design-services-1\/downloads\/\">https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/communications-marketing\/design-services-1\/downloads\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Poster size: <\/strong>Typical sizing is 36 x 48. At least one dimension must be 40\u201d or less. It can be vertically (portrait) or horizontally oriented (landscape).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Credits:<\/strong>\u00a0Remember to put your name (and any co-authors) on the front of your poster!\u00a0Putting your discipline and your advisor\u2019s name isn\u2019t a bad idea either\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Printing deadline:<\/strong>\u00a0If you are having your poster printed by Post &amp; Print on a wide-format printer, your poster must be submitted for printing with a\u00a0<strong>3 day turnaround<\/strong>\u00a0time. Please call the Print Studio at x6226 if you have special circumstances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<i>\u00a0<\/i>File Submission:<\/strong>\u00a0All files must be submitted\u00a0<strong><em>electronically via email.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Submit to <a href=\"mailto:posterprinting@bates.edu\">posterprinting@bates.edu<\/a> The maximum file capacity is 25 megs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5) Naming convention:<\/strong>\u00a0Please name your poster file with your Bates network username (underscore) your contact phone number with area code,\u00a0<strong>Example:<\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>lhenders_7771234.pdf<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>6) Acceptable file format:<\/strong> Your poster must be submitted as a .PDF file or Post &amp; Print may not be able to open or print the file. When you design a poster (whether in InDesign or another app), some fonts and formatting may change when the PDF is opened on a different computer. Once you have saved or exported your file as a PDF, you should look at it on your own computer to make sure it looks OK. Also, it is a good idea to use common fonts, or if possible to outline your fonts before making the PDF.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6A)<\/strong> Due to production methods, a \u201clive\u201d area of 35 x 47 must be maintained. Images flush with the edge of the poster may be cut off. Although graphics can be \u201cedge to edge\u201d, anything outside of this dimension may get trimmed off so if it\u2019s important keep it inside the 35 x 47 inch area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7) Payment:<\/strong>\u00a0 The cost for printing a 36 x 48 inch poster:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bates Students and departments $40<\/li>\n<li>All others $90<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Payment is due when you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">pick up<\/span> your poster at Post &amp; Print<\/strong>. The payment options:<\/p>\n<p><strong>a)<\/strong> If a department, program, or faculty advisor\u2019s grant is paying for your poster, please have the professor or advisor email <a href=\"mailto:postandprint@bates.edu\">postandprint@bates.edu<\/a> stating that he or she will pay for your poster. You should find out if your department or program will pay for your poster BEFORE you pay for it, as Post &amp; Print will not issue refunds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>b)\u00a0<\/strong>Late poster submissions (after the deadline) will be charged a $20 late fee\u00a0 on top of the print cost of $40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>c)<\/strong>\u00a0We accept cash and all major credit cards, cash or check payment at Post &amp; Print. Make checks payable to Bates College.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions about poster submission, please email <a href=\"mailto:postandprint@bates.edu\">postandprint@bates.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<h6><strong>PowerPoint Poster Printing Tips\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>If you will be creating a poster to print on our wide format inkjet printer from PowerPoint, please use these guidelines to ensure your poster will print at the appropriate size and quality.<\/p>\n<p>You will need to determine the size of the poster for PowerPoint to work with BEFORE you start adding information to the file. Typically page set-up should be 36 inches by 48 inches.<\/p>\n<p>1) Launch PowerPoint 2016 and select the Design tab and at the far right select under file, select slide size, then select custom size and enter 48 inch wide by 36 inch tall,\u00a0\u00a0landscape slide orientation.<\/p>\n<p>2) Leave a 0.5\u201d margin on the poster for printing purposes. Images flush with the edge of the poster may be cut off..<\/p>\n<p>3) When choosing a background, the best option is to insert an auto shape (square) select a fill color and \u201csend to the back\u201d to function as a background. Remember, while gradients look nice on the screen, they rarely print out as nice. If at all possible, try to avoid gradients or reduced opacity\/transparent images.<\/p>\n<p>4) Be sure that your text and image boxes fit their content \u2013 you don\u2019t want a box that is too small or too large because the printer \u201creads\u201d the out limits of the box before it \u201creads\u201d the content inside.<\/p>\n<p>5) Check your poster for extraneous boxes that may be hidden and delete them.
