{"id":1041,"date":"2012-04-17T15:56:32","date_gmt":"2012-04-17T19:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/psychology\/?page_id=1041"},"modified":"2022-08-26T13:21:46","modified_gmt":"2022-08-26T17:21:46","slug":"technical-resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/psychology\/resources-for-students\/technical-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Technical Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The use of computers and other technology is critical for students of psychology. \u00a0Here are some resources to help you.<\/p>\n<h2>Creating an online survey<\/h2>\n<p>The best option for most online surveys is to use Qualtrics, a very powerful survey creation and hosting engine. \u00a0Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/bates.qualtrics.com\">bates.qualtrics.com <\/a>and login with your Bates username.<\/p>\n<p>Although qualtrics has extensive online documentation, Brian Pfohl has written up answers to a few common questions that come up designing surveys for psychology research. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abacus.bates.edu\/~bpfohl\/qualtrics\">View his documentation here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another option for creating online surveys is by using the &#8220;Form&#8221; document type in <a title=\"Google Docs\" href=\"http:\/\/docs.bates.edu\">Google documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Using SPSS<\/h2>\n<p>SPSS is the primary statistics package that is taught in our psychology department. Brian Pfohl has prepared documentation and videos about cleaning up data in SPSS, with a particular emphasis on data that is generated in Qualtrics.\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abacus.bates.edu\/~bpfohl\/spss\">View his documentation here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Using PsycINFO and other library resources<\/h2>\n<p>PsycINFO is an searchable online database of scholarly publications in the field of psychology. The Bates community can access it from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/library\/\">Ladd Library website<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/psychology\/faculty-profile\/michael-sargent\/\">Michael Sargent<\/a> has prepared a video <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/KzLoY43OVa4\">interview with Brian Pfohl<\/a> to discuss ways to maximize use of this tool.<\/p>\n<p>He has another video in which he <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/JCBSGsSiYrQ\">interviews Christine Murray<\/a>, the social sciences librarian at Bates, about other library resources that may be useful to psychology students.<\/p>\n<h2>Creating a poster<\/h2>\n<p>Most seniors choose to present their thesis projects as a poster presentation, either at the department-sponsored session in the fall or at the <a title=\"Mt. David Summit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/summit\/\">Mt.
