Employer Recruiting Guidelines

Bates College is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and adheres to NACE’s Principles for Professional Practice. Bates College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, natural or ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital or parental status, or age or handicap in the recruitment and admission of its students, in the administration of its educational policies and programs, or in the recruitment and employment of its faculty and staff.

In addition, each recruiter should be familiar with guidelines established by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and other applicable federal and state laws.  Bates reserves the right to prohibit employer access to any and all recruitment activities.

Posting unpaid internships

Bates College values your interest in recruiting and hiring students into internships. While Bates posts both paid and unpaid internships for student applications, we expect that for-profit private sector employers familiarize themselves and comply with the U.S. Department of Labor’s internship guidelines, outlining the six specific criteria an internship must meet in order to qualify as unpaid. While Bates may decline from posting unpaid internships that do not appear to be in compliance with government policies, it is ultimately the responsibility of each employer to understand and comply with FLSA regulations.

Student Recruiting Guidelines

Bates College requires all students who participate in on-campus recruiting activities to abide by our recruiting policy which is posted on Handshake. Our policy requires that Bates students conduct themselves professionally at all times during recruitment events and activities, and we appreciate all constructive feedback from employers regarding student conduct.
