Registration for Fall 2021 Semester

Registration

Registration for Fall 2021 will occur in May prior to the end of the academic year. The Fall 2021 Schedule of Courses is being finalized now and will be made available in the Garnet Gateway by the end of the day tomorrow, April 30th. Please be sure to meet with your advisor(s) to have your registration hold removed before registration begins on May 10th. Double majors are advised to meet with both advisors. 
Registration will follow mostly the same set up as last November (on a space-available basis with reserved seats and waitlists) with one important difference. On Monday, May 10th registration will open so students from each class can register for one preferred course. This is an effort to improve course access to all students. Registration will then proceed for each class for the additional three courses. 
The schedule will be as follows:
Monday, May 10 –  Registration for 1.0 credit:
Seniors (class of 2022) 8:00-10:00am
Juniors (class of 2023) 10:00am-12:00pm
Sophomores (class of 2024) 12:00-2:00pm
Tuesday, May 11 – 7:00am open registration – Seniors  (class of 2022)
Wednesday, May 12 – 7:00am open registration – Juniors  (class of 2023)
Thursday, May 13 – 7:00am open registration open registration – Sophomores (class of 2024)
once registration opens for a class it will remain open until May 31st

All students who intend to be enrolled in the Fall of 2021 must initially register no later than Sunday, May 16th prior to Add/Drop opening on Monday, May 17th to avoid late registration fees  

Registration will remain open through May 31st and students may register for up to 4.5 course credits. Students may add a fifth course (up to 5.0 or 5.5 credits) when registration reopens in late August prior to the start of classes. 

Major Declaration – Current Sophomores – Class of 2023As we wrote earlier in the winter semester, the deadline for declaring your a major plus one for members of the class of 2023 is this Saturday, May 1st. If you have not yet completed your declarations, please do so immediately. Failure to do so will result in a hold being placed on your record that will prevent you from registering until you’re fully declared. If you are getting your advisor hold lifted prior to completing your major declaration, you will need to meet with your underclass advisor. If you have already declared a major, or complete your declaration prior to having the hold lifted, you will need to meet with your major advisor. Applied Music
As you plan for your course schedule for next year, please note that the student fee for applied music lessons will increase to $550 per semester. Our current fee structure was set well over a decade ago and is no longer sustainable. We must take this step if we hope to continue offering lessons in a wide array of instruments. As is currently the case, this fee covers eleven lessons per semester. To ensure that students are able to take lessons if they wish, Bates will continue to offer financial assistance on a stepped scale to students who receive need-based grant aid.
