{"id":524,"date":"2018-08-06T15:37:20","date_gmt":"2018-08-06T19:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/research-resources\/?page_id=524"},"modified":"2021-08-06T16:53:44","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T20:53:44","slug":"scarab-dr-description","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/research-resources\/front-page\/scarab-dr-description\/","title":{"rendered":"SCARAB Data Repository"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SCARAB Data Repository provides Bates College sponsored scholars with a tool for archiving and, if desired, providing access to the digital products of their scholarship.\u00a0 These digital research products can be provided with a unique digital object identifier (i.e. <strong>CrossRef DOI<\/strong>).\u00a0 They can also be associated with the <strong>ORCHID ID<\/strong>&#8216;s of the associated scholars.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/scarab.bates.edu\/datasets\/\"><strong>Access the SCARAB Data Repository here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/research-resources\/front-page\/scarab-dr-description\/scarab-data-repository-submission-form\/\"><strong>Submit data sets and metadata to the SCARAB Data Repository online here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SCARAB Data Repository Use Cases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It is generally best practice to archive finalized research products in national or international repositories of similar materials to maximize discoverability and to leverage discipline-specific metadata structures.\u00a0 However, SCARAB Data Repository is a good solution if your scholarly products:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>do not have a national or international repository of similar content,<\/li>\n<li>will not be published as part of a larger collection of data (e.g. &#8220;orphaned data&#8221;),<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate the kind of &#8220;negative results&#8221; which, although valuable, are typically not included in published studies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Access Control &#8211; What is available?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Access control options for digital products archived in the SCARAB Data Repository are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>archival (i.e. only accessible to system administrators),<\/li>\n<li>available to members of the Bates community only,<\/li>\n<li>openly available to all<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Accessible data can also be placed under embargo (i.e. initially archival, but accessible after a defined date after submission).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who should I contact?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Questions about the SCARAB Data Repository\u00a0and how it can be used to archive your finalized datasets should be directed to\u00a0Pete Schlax (pschlax2@bates.edu).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Questions regarding DOI assignment and ORCID ID&#8217;s can be directed to the SCARAB institutional repository manager at batesscarab@bates.edu.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Questions?
