{"id":3690,"date":"2025-01-28T10:17:39","date_gmt":"2025-01-28T15:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/research\/?page_id=3690"},"modified":"2025-01-28T10:17:39","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T15:17:39","slug":"bates-college-data-governance-group","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/research\/bates-college-data-governance-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Bates College Data Governance Group"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Purpose<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The Data Governance Group at Bates College (DGG) is established to oversee and govern the management, security, quality, and responsible use of college data.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Responsibilities<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Policy Development:<\/strong> Formulate, review, and recommend data governance policies, standards, and procedures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data Management:<\/strong> Serve as a resource for relevant departments as they establish guidelines for data collection, storage, access, quality, and retention.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Training and Awareness:<\/strong> Develop educational programs and materials to promote institution-level data governance awareness and provide training to faculty, staff, and students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data Access Controls:<\/strong> Establish protocols for granting access to data, defining roles, and maintaining access controls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Continuous Improvement:<\/strong> Regularly assess and improve data governance practices, policies, and procedures based on evolving needs and industry best practices.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Objectives<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Establish a framework for effective data governance practices and policies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster a culture of responsible data handling and ethical data use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote the reliability, accuracy, and consistency of institutional data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitate collaboration among departments to achieve data governance goals.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Membership<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The Data Governance Group shall consist of representatives from various departments across the college, including but not limited to Information and Library Services; Institutional Research, Analysis, and Planning; the Office of the Dean of Faculty; and the Registrar\u2019s Office.
