At approximately 8 pm this evening, Security was notified by a student that as she was walking in the vicinity of Carnegie Science close to the Quad, a male, possibly in his 30’s, 74″-76″ tall, heavy build, wearing a dark hoodie and cargo shorts, started to follow behind her. She advised that as he got closer to her he tried to grab at her but she ran away from him across the Admissions lot to her residence. She immediately contacted Security and a search was conducted of the area to try to locate this unknown individual. The Lewiston Police Department has been advised and responded as well.

A short while later, it was determined that a second student had observed possibly the same individual on Campus Ave. by Admissions prior to this incident. The individual did not approach that student. If anyone recalls seeing an individual fitting this general description and can possibly provide more identifying information, please contact security.

This type of situation rarely occurs at Bates but out of an abundance of caution, please remember to walk along the lit walkways at night and preferably in the company of other students.Thank you for your attention.
