Thesis Topic Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>The thesis process begins with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/sociology\/files\/2010\/05\/Thesis-Topic-Plan.pdf\">&#8220;Thesis Topic Plan&#8221;<\/a><\/strong>, to be completed\u00a0toward the end of the semester preceding thesis work. This step is designed to get you thinking\u00a0about a topic and to get you started identifying some relevant literature. You do not need to\u00a0have your thesis plans fully developed or finalized by the time you submit this topic plan. The\u00a0topic plan includes the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a general topic and preliminary research question for your thesis<\/li>\n<li>your preferences for thesis advisor<\/li>\n<li>an annotated bibliography covering four readings relevant to your topic\/preliminary\u00a0question<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/sociology\/files\/2010\/05\/Thesis-Topic-Plan.pdf\">Thesis Topic Plan<\/a><\/strong> should follow the format indicated on this page and should be submitted to the Department Chair by the following\u00a0dates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For Fall semester theses: May 15 of the junior year (if you will be away during short\u00a0term, you are welcome to submit it by mail or to submit it in April before leaving\u00a0campus)<\/li>\n<li>For Winter semester theses: December 1 of the senior year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
