but that\u2019s impossible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notes don\u2019t make much sense afterwards, and while trying to take down everything they\u2019re saying you miss the main ideas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Solution<\/span>: <em>Stop taking dictation, start writing only the most important information<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Concentrate on the lecture, listen for the professor\u2019s main ideas\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Try to identify an intro, its points\/examples, a concept, its points\/examples, etc<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use short phrases rather than sentences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write an outline of the lecture by memory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write a summary of the lecture in your own words<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800000\">Problem 2<\/span>: <em>Writing too little<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some students have the opposite problem, and only write an occasional note<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This may help with interesting facts\/things you think you should memorize, but this usually doesn\u2019t help with retaining the main ideas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Solution<\/span>: <em>Aim to have a minimum number of pages per hour of lecture<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For example, aim to take 2-4 pages of notes in a 1 hour lecture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800000\">Problem 3<\/span>: <em>Not recognizing the main points and other important information<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>While this manifests itself in notetaking, this problem is not caused by notetaking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Solution<\/span>: <em>Compare with peers<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This could be a situation in which comparing notes with other students in your class could be helpful<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See what they considered important, ask what they considered important, and compare notes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>ON STUDYING<br><\/b><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800000\">Problem 1<\/span>: <em>Procrastination<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One of the most common problems, even if you don\u2019t know you\u2019re doing it!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Solution<\/span>: <em>Take a ten minute break<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When you sit down for the next attempt, your head will be clear and you\u2019ll be more ready to tackle your work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800000\">Problem 2<\/span>: <em>Disorganization<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hard to focus on studying if your notes\/agenda\/mind is disorganized<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Solution<\/span>: <em>Dedicate time to reorganize<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><i>Put aside an hour or so to restructure whatever you feel would be most important<\/i><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commit yourself to reorganizing, rather than stressing out about wasting time you could be spending studying<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seek help for reorganization &#8212; ARC, friends, online resources (Be Focused.com\/ app)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800000\">Problem 3<\/span>: <em>Not knowing where to start<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Feel overwhelmed and don\u2019t know how to begin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Solution<\/span>: <em>Make a plan&nbsp;<\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go through syllabus, revisit work from throughout the semester<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construct a plan of how you are going to tackle your studying\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start early; don\u2019t wait until the last minute<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be realistic. Break your work into chunks that are doable over the weeks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have made it this far!
