We invite you to share the following talking points\/facts about SASC with your students.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Download: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/student-academic-support-center\/files\/2024\/07\/Talking-Points-for-Faculty-about-SASC-2024.pdf\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"5112\">Talking Points (pdf)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">What is the Student Academic Support Center (SASC)?<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC is a support center that offers assistance for introductory and intermediate level courses in various subjects including mathematics, statistics, programming, natural sciences, life sciences, music theory, and quantitative social sciences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition to content support, SASC offers help with study skills, note-taking, time management, and organization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our services are for <em>all<\/em> Bates students; SASC is not a remedial center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is conveniently located in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/peer-learning-commons\/\">Peer Learning Commons<\/a> on the ground floor of Ladd Library.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Drop-In Support Hours<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC provides drop-in support during specific hours throughout the week.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No appointment is necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The drop-in support hours are as follows:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mondays &#8211; Thursdays:&nbsp; 11am &#8211; 4pm and 6pm &#8211; 9pm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fridays:&nbsp; 11am &#8211; 3pm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sundays: 6pm &#8211; 9pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Embedded Course-Attached Tutor (CAT) Support<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC embeds Course-Attached Tutors (CATs) in courses across the curriculum that have a high demand for tutoring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depending on the course, CATs may attend class and assist during active learning activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CATs provide weekly evening help sessions\/study groups for their assigned class section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CATs are available to hold private appointments with students enrolled in their assigned class section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Inclusive and Welcoming Environment<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC embraces the values of inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everyone is welcome at SASC, regardless of their background or academic level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students do not have to be struggling to come to SASC!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Collaborative Learning<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC aims to model and foster collaborative learning among students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We encourage students to work together, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By promoting a collaborative environment, SASC enhances the learning experience and facilitates deeper understanding of the subject matter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Safe Academic Space<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC provides a safe space for academic exploration and growth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students are encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them as part of the scholarly process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Learner-Centered Approach<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC is committed to meeting the individual needs of each student.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We understand that building knowledge requires a diversity of approaches and perspectives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Transformational Experience<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SASC aims to provide transformational rather than transactional experiences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We go beyond simply offering resources and assistance;
