Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

Summary of Position

This position will take place both on and off campus. Research assistants will travel to Alaska over the course of short term and assist with field excavation and data collection and field camp logistics. This position will also assist in community engaged learning with Alaska students grades 6-12 during an experiential learning week.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities


Background in Indigenous frameworks, archaeology and k-12 education are required. Experience in backcountry living is helpful as is CPR and first aid training.


This position will work closely with Togiak students, Bates students, a graduate assistant and Dr. Barnett. This position reports directly to Dr. Barnett. This position will assist in the supervision of excavation and data collection and field camp logistics.


This position requires extensive travel to Northern Bristol Bay Alaska and will include physical activity such as lifting, climbing, hiking and sleeping in tents. Prior knowledge of the area and conditions is helpful
