DOF: Senior Speaker Coordinator (S9594C)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

Each Commencement features an address delivered by a member of the senior class, selected by members of the class. Dean of the Faculty’s office offers a paid position of Senior Speaker Coordinator to an organized senior to manage the process by which the finalists for the Commencement Senior Speaker are identified. The work takes place from late February through March, and is expected to require 15 to 20 hours.

Coordinates the selection of finalists for Commencement Senior Speaker (late February – mid March):
— manages the list of seniors participating in the competition (with assistant dean of the faculty)
— reserves room and schedules Senior Speech Night
— communicates with speaker contestants about the Senior Speech Night in late February or early March
— advertises Senior Speech Night via social media, class list, and other means [Note: it is critical to have as many seniors as possible attending this event]
— emcees Senior Speech Night
— manages the voting for finalists
— informs all speaker contestants about who was selected
— provides brief report to the assistant dean of the faculty on Senior Speech Night:  How many seniors attended, how many seniors delivered speeches, how the voting was undertaken (typically paper ballots), and who the finalists are
