Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Student Photographer will be largely responsible for the publicity of the Harward Center through photojournalism, working primarily outside of the Harward Center (taking photographs at Harward Center community events). The Student Photographer will be responsible for taking professional quality photographs of Harward Center events so that they can be submitted to local and national publications for inclusion. The student will be given a list of events at the start of each week and will be responsible for finding their own transportation (which may be reimbursed) to and from said events and for taking compelling photographs at said events. The student will need to have exceptional experience with photography and will need to be a self-starter in order to manage their schedule in accordance with that of the Harward Center.  He or she must be able to work independently without any supervision.  A digital camera will be provided by the Center for use by the student photographer.

The Student Photographer will be largely responsible for the publicity of the Harward Center through photojournalism. He or she will also work with the other HCCP work-study students to create compelling stories to be sent to local and national publications to promote the Harward Center.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities


REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bates student EXPERIENCE: This student must have exceptional photography skills and a portfolio of previous work. DESIRED EDUCATION: Education related to photography EXPERIENCE: Service-learning and photography experience


Reports to: Administrative Assistant and Associate Director, Coordinates/Works closely with: All programs and staff within the Harward Center as well as community and faculty partners


Environment: Bright, sunny, open office building Travel Requirements: The Student Photographer will have to travel to Harward Center events both on and off campus. Physical Requirements: The Student Photographer must be able to carry heavy photographic equipment. Machines & Equipment Used: Digital camera, PC, and scanner
