Welcome Class of 2023!

Hello and welcome to Bates! Among the countless opportunities on campus, student jobs can be some of the most exciting and rewarding experiences for any student. For many not only do they get some extra spending money, they are also able to learn valuable life skills. For example, while working at Commons (the Dining facility on campus), students are taught safe and efficient knife techniques, food hygienics, and  the team work of cleaning a kitchen. Some students with on-campus jobs in Advancement (Fundraising), take on a fundraising projects where they learn the fundamentals of conducting surveys and interviews. Still other students work as Junior Advisors on dorm floors across campus, and, with the leadership experience they gain from these jobs, they can be promoted to help the Housing Office supervise the running of whole dorms. Nearly every student who has a job on campus has gained a valuable appreciation for the work that it takes to keep a college like Bates running.
