Each academic department has 6 generic positions.<\/b><\/p>\n
Faculty members hiring students in one of the following positions do not need to submit a position description form. You may or may not advertise for applicants on Handshake, the software we use to post positions, which is administered by the Center for Purposeful Work. If you have not pre-selected a student, we encourage you to request that we post your position on Handshake.<\/p>\n
The following positions were created especially for faculty members:<\/span><\/p>\n Student Assistant<\/strong>: Mainly office work, answering the phone, photocopying, running errands, stapling, and\/or using the computer. <\/span><\/p>\n Teaching Assistant<\/strong>: Student works independently and often has to have specialized knowledge. Helps professors in assurring classes run smoothly<\/span>. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Lab Assistant<\/strong><\/span>: Students preparing labs for classes, not left unsupervised. This requires some form of specialized knowledge.<\/span><\/p>\n Research Assistant<\/strong>: Requires specialized knowledge of material. Works independently and carries high levels of responsibility.<\/span><\/p>\n Grant Funded Research Assistant<\/strong>: Research Assistant funded by a grant.<\/p>\n Grader<\/strong>: Assists with grading assignments.<\/p>\n The above positions descriptions may not exactly match <\/span>the position description you have in mind.
