Greetings from the Student Employment Office!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Many Bates students participate in on-campus employment as a way to build community, explore passions, and make money. If you are considering applying for on-campus employment at Bates, be prepared to complete the Bates Work Authorization<\/a> (BWA) process once offered a job. BWA is the employee onboarding process and is required for all Bates College employees. Even once you are offered a position, you may not start working, begin training, or attend meetings until you are work authorized.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are interested in working at Bates, here is how you can prepare for the onboarding process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Prepare to bring the required documentation to campus. Please review the list of acceptable documents<\/a> necessary for completing Form I-9. You need either a document from List A or a combination of List B and C documents. These documents cannot be copies, pictures, or scans and cannot be expired<\/strong> per Department of Homeland Security regulations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Set up Direct Deposit<\/a> in Garnet Gateway<\/a>. You can do this at any time, even before you have applied for a job. Please note: you will need to set up the “Proposed Pay Distribution” section first, then the “Accounts Payable” section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. For international students: Payroll will send the activation email to set up your Sprintax <\/a>profile. It is best to do this upon receiving the email, but can be done at any time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Find available jobs on Handshake<\/a>! Handshake access for incoming students will be granted the summer before your freshman year by mid-August. Once you receive an email from the Center for Purposeful Work<\/a>, you will be able to sign in to Handshake using your Bates email credentials.     1. Students may hold multiple Bates jobs, but may only work up to 20 hours per week combined.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Being awarded work-study does not guarantee you a position on-campus. You have to apply for positions on Handshake.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. All eligible students may work on campus, regardless if work-study status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Students who work 8-10 hours per week will earn approximately $1,700-2,000 during the academic year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Your earnings go directly into your bank account, so you choose how to spend them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
