Do you have a student who showed perseverance and resourcefulness with their writing or language-learning processes in your class? Do you know an empathetic, encouraging, and dynamic collaborator who enjoys writing or talking about writing–or learning about and communicating in a second language–with others? <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most effective ways we find tutors for the Student Writing & Language Center is through faculty, staff, and student (peer) nominations<\/strong>. When you nominate a student, we reach out to them and let them know they’ve been nominated and encourage them to apply. You just let us know who and we take care of the rest. Anyone–student, staff, or faculty–can nominate a student. The more nominations, the better!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To NOMINATE<\/strong> a student or students, simply EMAIL<\/strong> the Director of Student Writing, Bridget Fullerton (bfullert@bates.edu<\/a>), with the names of the student\/s you would like to nominate!<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

Nominations are not<\/em> recommendations; they just get the process started and give students motivation and confidence to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a student then chooses to apply<\/a> to become a writing or language tutor for us, we ask them to designate at least one faculty member who would offer us a recommendation<\/strong> in support of the student’s candidacy. This may be you, or it may be someone else. We let the student decide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a student lists you as a recommender in their application, a SWLC professional staff member will reach out to you with a link to a separate recommendation form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All students must complete an application, which includes a faculty recommendation, and interview with us to be considered for the position of tutor<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
