The Student Writing & Language Center (SWLC), located in the Peer Learning Commons<\/a> on the ground floor of Ladd Library, empowers Bates students in becoming more effective writers, language-users, communicators, thinkers, and learners by providing a supportive environment for idea generation, collaboration, drafting, writing, reading, revising, editing, studying, speaking, and presenting. SWLC tutors are Bates students trained to listen to and guide their peers in using writing and language to achieve students’ personal and academic goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE: SWLC also provides tutoring support for speaking assignments and oral presentations, graduate school and grant applications, creative writing, and thesis and capstone projects. Once you’ve written or composed a draft of your speech or presentation with the help of a SWLC Writing Tutor and are ready to practice it, head on over to the PLC’s Speaking & Presentation Studios<\/a> where there are trained tutors to give you feedback on–and even a recording of–your presentation, if you’d like.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
