{"id":538,"date":"2011-11-22T11:44:55","date_gmt":"2011-11-22T16:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/sustainability\/?page_id=538"},"modified":"2014-08-14T12:31:09","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T16:31:09","slug":"climate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/sustainability\/climate\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2009, Bates signed on to the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) pledging to work toward becoming a climate neutral campus.<\/p>\n<p>As a first step we updated our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/sustainability\/files\/2011\/11\/2009-GHG-emissions.pdf\">greenhouse gas emissions inventory<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to reveal the major sources of our emissions. We found that over eighty percent of our emissions come from energy used in buildings \u2013 for electricity, heat and hot water.<\/p>\n<p>We therefore worked to develop a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/sustainability\/files\/2011\/11\/Bates-CAP-20102.pdf\">Climate Action Plan (CAP)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in tandem with our 2010 Campus Facilities Master Plan Update.
