About<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Marita Kennedy-Castro (she\/her) is an embodied movement artist, dance educator and intercultural bridge-builder residing in the unceded Wabanaki territory we now call Maine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharing from over twenty five years of study with master West African dance and drum artists, Marita received the encouragement and blessing to teach Guinea\u2019s traditional dance from world-renowned dance artist and cultural ambassador, Youssouf Koumbassa. She collaborates with djembefola (master drum artist) Sayon Camara of Guinea to offer community classes, workshops and performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marita believes that every body deserves access to dance and a relationship of expression and connection through movement. She supports individuals in deepening their somatic exploration and increased movement freedom through individualized movement lessons and community classes. She is passionate about contributing to cultural preservation, a responsible approach to intercultural learning, building community and illuminating avenues to healing through movement as medicine. Marita completed her thesis in Dance & Performance Art for Healing & Social Change<\/em> at Goddard College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
