March Mania: Let the Games Begin!

The rematch is on, as Colby, Trinity, and Connecticut College compete against Bates to see who can capture, in one month, the greatest number of gifts from BOLD (Bobcats of the Last Decade) alumni in the classes of 2001-2010. The winning college claims the bragging rights and the March Mania Cup for having the most loyal alumni and will win a party in their honor! Help spread the word:

We Need You

Peer to peer contact is the key to fundraising success. To date, 45% of Bates Fund volunteers have logged in to the new Online Tools for Fundraising Volunteers via the Garnet Gateway to begin making contacts to assigned donors. This means that hundreds of alumni and parents assigned to volunteers have not been personally contacted by a volunteer or student!

If you have not logged in, please do so this month. You can watch a tutorial video here. If you are having trouble with your PIN or ID, call the College’s Help Desk at 207-786-8222. If you misplaced the Oct. letter containing your log-in credentials or have general questions, please contact Annual Giving Coordinator Nina Emmi ’10 at or 207-755-5993. Also, we are happy to send you paper call sheets if you prefer not to use the Online Tools.

Student Callers will begin to contact all alumni regardless of their assignment status later this month.

Mount David Society Recognition Dinners

New York MDS eventOnce again, Bates will host several dinners featuring Trustees and College leaders to thank Mount David Society donors. Save the date; invitations are forthcoming.

Bates Mythbusters: What’s Up With Our Money?

Bates students heard from Assistant Vice President for Financial Planning and Analysis Doug Ginevan, Vice President for College Advancement Kelly Kerner, and Director of Annual Giving Christina Wellington Traister ’94 about College finances, the budgeting process, and fundraising, last month. The lively event yielded many questions, debunked some myths, and left many attendees asking, “How can we come together to help build a stronger culture of engagement and philanthropy among students and alumni?” With this year’s Senior Class Gift already at 33% participation, the College’s future looks to be in good hands!


Recent Appeals

New Bates Fund appeals featuring Trustee Geri FitzGerald ’75 and Kristen Gavin ’12 talking about the importance of financial aid were mailed to alumni in late February.

Alumni received a letter and insert card and prospective Mount David Society donors received a new brochure on the Named Scholars program. Parents received a letter from Parents Fund co-chairs Jim and Cherry Karlson P’13 and Bob and Kathy Whelan P’05.

Now is a great time to follow up with assigned donors to secure a gift or pledge!
