{"id":448,"date":"2016-05-09T10:51:18","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T10:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/williams-lab\/?p=448"},"modified":"2024-01-04T16:41:48","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T21:41:48","slug":"back-from-a-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/williams-lab\/2016\/05\/09\/back-from-a-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Back from a conference!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend Larissa, Nancy, and Jake went to the 43rd Maine Biological and Medical Sciences Symposium at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory. <\/p>\n<p>It was Jake\u2019s first time a science conference and Nancy\u2019s second. The MBMSS event had both undergraduates and other Maine researchers presenting their work in a variety of fields including: developmental and cellular biology, regeneration, genetics, bioinformatics, environmental biology, toxicology, infectious disease, neuroscience, and physiology. We made it to MDIBL by noon for lunch and the sessions of presentations. The keynote speaker prompted some interesting among the three of us, as we thought a lot of about the importance of the mitochondria. While it should\u2019ve been a relatively \u201cchill\u201d day, sitting through hours of presentations took quite a mental toll on Jake and Nancy. Luckily, a lobster was awaiting for dinner!
