Slide show: Grieving for Troy Pappas, Bates football claims victory
The Bobcats’ 33-6 victory over perennial NESCAC powerhouse Williams College on Oct. 6 was a stunning and gratifying way to end an awful week for the team and the Bates community.
The game began with a moment of silence in memory of the late Troy Pappas, a freshman wide receiver on the Bobcats from Eliot, Maine. Pappas died Friday afternoon, Oct. 5, after a tragic accident earlier in the week, in which he fell down a stairwell in Parker Hall on campus.
Before the game, members of the Pappas family walked with the team from the Bobcat statue to Garcelon Field. There, senior captain Patrick George ’13 held Pappas’ No. 8 jersey as each player and coach touched the jersey before entering the field.
