WELLESLEY, Mass. -- A pair of Bates divers figured significantly in the scoring as the swimming and diving team wrapped up the regular season with a meet at Wellesley College that included Connecticut College. The Bates women defeated Wellesley in team scoring 193-99 and lost to the Camels 181-106. The Bates men lost to the Camels by a 191-102 score.

For the Bates women, senior Annaliese Rudis (North Andover, Mass.) won both diving events, scoring 228.67 points at 1 meter and a new career-high of 254.85 points in the 3-meter.

Other event winners included:

Senior Katelyn Drake (Hudson, Ohio), who won the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.57)
First-year Tara Dugan (Wilton, Conn.) won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:57.19, in what head coach Peter Casares called "a breakthrough performance."
First-year Catherine Sparks (New Canaan, Conn.) won the 50 breast in 31.85 seconds, not too far from her older sister Nicole Sparks' Bates record of 31.27 seconds from 2004. Catherine Sparks was also second in the 50 fly (28.00).

For the Bates men, first-year diver Travis Jones (Ithaca, N.Y.) won the 1-meter event with 201.44 points and the 3-meter with 227.63 points.

Sophomore Nathaniel Depew (Hudson, Ohio) won the 200 free in 1:49.53 and also placed second in the 100 back (56.21). Meanwhile sophomore Ned Scott (Maplewood, N.J.) won the 100 free in 48.83 seconds and finished second in the 100 fly (52.56). "Ned Scott was fantastic today," said Casares. "He swam all in-season lifetime bests."

Next up for the Bobcats are the all-important NESCAC Championships. The women's championships take place Feb. 19-21 at Middlebury. The men's meet is scheduled for Feb. 26-28 at Williams.
