Miley wins Bates Pentathlon, sets Bates record
December 8,
2007
"Very good day at the pent today," said Bates men's head coach Al Fereshetian. "Outstanding performances and great energy by everyone." En route to his record point total, Miley (Hanson, Mass.) qualified for the New England Division III Championships in both the long jump (20 feet, 8 inches) and the high jump (6 feet, 2 1/4 inches). In their previous meeting at last year's New Englands, Miley was the runner-up to Scott while posting a then-personal best 3,364 points. Also registering a personal record today for the Bates men was sophomore Erik Born (Westbrook, Maine), with 3,086 points, good for fourth place out of 13 competitors. First-year Brett Epler (Wellesley, Mass.), competing in his first-ever pentathlon, recorded 3,038 points for seventh place at the meet and the No. 10 spot on Bates' all-time performers' list. Epler also qualified for New Englands in the 55-meter hurdles, with his time of 8.33 seconds. Two Bates women, co-captain Izzy Alexander '09 (Harvard, Mass.) and Lily Gordon '10 (Scarsdale, N.Y.), also competed. Alexander scored 2,625 points to qualify for the New England Division III Championships. Alexander also qualified for New Englands in the 800 meters, with her time of 2:27.51. |
