Re-Applying to Bates

If you’ve applied to Bates within the past two years, you may reapply by reactivating your application for consideration, regardless of the previous decision.

If you applied as a first-year student within the past two years, and you have not matriculated at a post-secondary institution, you’ll need to reapply as a first-year applicant. For more information on applying as a first-year student, click here.

Here are the application requirements:

  1. Complete the Common Application and the Bates Member section online at http://www.commonapp.org/.
  2. Provide updated financial aid documentation (if applicable).
  3. Submit an essay describing your current activities (i.e., schooling, work, etc.) and any other information that you believe is pertinent.
  4. Provide your official final high school transcript.
  5. Provide any recent academic transcripts, exam results, and/or teacher recommendations.
  6. Provide your official TOEFL score report (for non-native speakers of English).
  7. Please note that the $60 application fee is waived for students who are reactivating a previous application.

If you applied as a first-year student within the past two years, and you have since matriculated as a degree candidate at another institution and have earned or are earning credit, you’ll need to apply as a transfer applicant. For more information on applying as a transfer student, click here.


If you applied as a transfer student within the past two years, you’ll need to reapply as a transfer applicant. Following are the application requirements needed to update your application:

  1. Complete the Common Application for Transfers and the Bates Member section online at http://www.commonapp.org/.
  2. Provide updated financial aid documentation (if applicable).
  3. Provide an updated official college transcript.
  4. Provide an updated copy of course descriptions from your college’s course catalog (you may cut and paste the descriptions into a Word document and email them in pdf format to admission@bates.edu). Note: Your application won’t be reviewed until we receive your course descriptions.
  5. Provide mid-year grade estimates signed by your current professors. This form is available for download on the Common Application for Transfer Students. You can email them in pdf format to admission@bates.edu.
  6. Registrar’s Report submitted by your college registrar (this includes a statement of good academic and social standing).
  7. Official TOEFL score report (for non-native speakers of English).
  8. Note that the $60 application fee is waived for students who are reactivating a previous application.
