Instructions for Re-Application

If you have applied to Bates within the past two years, then you may reapply by reactivating your application for consideration, regardless of the previous decision. You will not need to submit a new application, but will need to update your previous one. Here are the steps:

  1. Notify the admissions office in writing of your intention. Include the year of your original application in your letter. You can either email us at admissions@bates.edu or send us a letter to: Bates College Admissions Office, Lindholm House, 23 Campus Ave., Lewiston, Maine 04240.
  2. Two copies of your official college transcript and the Mid-Semester Grade Report signed by your current professors. For Fall semester applicants, mid-semester grade estimates are due March 1 even if mid-semester exams occur after the March 1 deadline.
  3. Three recommendations: two from college faculty and one from a college advisor/counselor. Please use the College Instructor Evaluation form provided by the Common Application. If you do not know your professors personally, you can submit recommendations from college teaching assistants or discussions leaders.
  4. Updated financial aid documentation
  5. An essay describing your current activities (i.e. schooling, work, etc.) and why you want to transfer to Bates. Note: When checking your Bates Admissions Application Status, this essay will be noted as "Personal Essay."
  6. Course catalog with specific descriptions of courses taken at your current institution. You may highlight each relevant course description in the college catalog or print course descriptions from your institution's on-line catalog. Note: Your application will not be reviewed until we receive your course descriptions.
  7. College Official's Report. You must include a statment of good standing from the Dean of Students Office from each institution you have attended. The statement can be brief and must confirm your good academic and social standing at each college. While not required, we recommend that you revise your essay response to the Bates Supplemental question about your interest in applying to Bates.

Please note that students who reactivate a previous application are not required to submit the $60 application fee again.
