Julianne has always possessed a love for storytelling. For as long as she can remember, she has said she wants to be a writer. She believes that good writers open themselves up to a diverse education. This led her to pursue a liberal arts education at Bates College. She majored in English with a concentration in creative writing and minored in Japanese studies, an area of study she sort of stumbled upon through Bates’ encouragement to try something she’d never done before. In her junior year, she studied abroad in Kyoto, Japan, and put her language skills to good use. On campus, when not attending classes, she spent her time at the Peer Learning Commons, where she worked as both a general writing tutor and a Writing Course Attached Tutor (W-CAT) in the Student Writing and Language Center (SWLC). Here, she discovered her passion for helping students find their voices as writers, telling their own unique and amazing stories. Otherwise, she could be found playing the saxophone in the Bates Jazz Ensemble or in the Bates Musicians’ Union, the hub for all student bands. 

Julianne grew up on Long Island in New York, but once she moved for college, she found that Maine was a place she could picture herself post-graduation. She spent four years discovering all the things the vibrant city of Lewiston has to offer, as well as traveling beyond the city to places like Portland, Brunswick, and Baxter State Park. She spent two summers working on an island off the coast of Rockland called North Haven, where she continued to fall in love with the beautiful Maine coastline.

She is excited about her role as an Admissions Counselor, returning to a beloved community to assist prospective and current Bates students in realizing all they have to contribute to this institution and beyond.
