Joe’s life has been shaped by an international upbringing and multicultural family roots. He was born in Medellín, Colombia, and spent his early childhood in Barcelona, Spain. However, he spent most of his high school years in la isla del encanto, his mother’s land, Puerto Rico. He then travelled north to not-always-sunny Philadelphia to attend Haverford College, where he studied Anthropology with minors in Spanish and Visual Studies and a concentration in Latin American Studies.

His most formative collegiate experience was working in Admissions, where he was a tour guide, host, and senior interviewer and intern, which propelled him to enter the world of undergraduate admissions. Before starting at Bates, he spent a year experiencing international admissions at Temple University. He was thrilled to return to the hidden gem of the liberal arts education, which offers deep and engaged learning in a tight-knit community and a myriad of support networks.
