Christopher Petrella, Ph.D., teaches courses in American Cultural Studies at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and explores the intellectual histories of race and resistance. In addition, he serves as Associate Director of Programs for the College’s Office of Equity and Diversity.

Christopher’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, The Nation, Boston Review, The Maine Magazine, and The New Yorker.  His work has also appeared on ESPN’s The Undefeated and NPR and has been debated in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Christopher blogs for AAIHS and is completing his first book on the history of white supremacy in 20th century New England. Christopher is the recipient of the Distinction in Teaching Award at both the University of California, Berkeley (2011) and Harvard University (2015).
