Fall 2020 Planning
Campus Life is planning to offer in-person, virtual, and hybrid student programs and late-night social events this fall.
Clear and standard practices will be established so that students know, in advance, how to manage meetings and social events. We will align programming and events with CDC guidelines that include limiting gatherings to 50 people or fewer and require attendees to wear face coverings. Limits on the number of people assembled may change as CDC guidelines evolve.
While large-scale social events will not be possible this fall, we will be working with student clubs, organizations, and campus partners in providing ample opportunities for student engagement that reflect the diverse interests of our students, and that capture some of the traditions that students have come to know and love.
Co-curricular Space Access
Student leaders of clubs, organizations, and other groups requiring special access permissions to conduct the business of their organization will be required to adhere to all guidelines for maximum capacities, physical distancing expectations, and other transmission risk-management practices.

Engaging with Campus Life Remotely:
Through the summer, our working hours continue to be from 9:00am to 6:00pm EDT. Any emails received during that time will be responded to swiftly and we are happy to schedule meetings over Zoom or phone either individually or in groups within those times.
We are also available via Google Hangouts – just search for us from the Hangouts area (lower left corner) of your Bates Gmail. If you can’t find the Hangouts area, go into your Gmail settings, then select the Chat tab, and turn it on. Alternatively, you can download the Google Hangouts app from the App Store or Google Play and log-in with your Bates credentials.
Finally, we understand that not everybody can always accommodate a time to meet between 9:00am to 6:00pm EDT. If you find yourself in this situation, please be in touch and we will be happy to find a time to connect.
What might you want to talk about?
- Big picture planning for your club/org for the fall
- Event planning for the fall
- Ideas or questions about how to engage remotely with the Bates community
- Anything else!

Reflecting the Bates Institutional Plan, Campus Life plays an integral role in the education of the whole person, a “process through which students become aware of their interests, community, and purpose in the world.” We deepen the student experience by providing resources and opportunities to explore interests through involvement in student clubs and organizations, social events and programs, skill building workshops, and employment opportunities. An equity and inclusion lens is foundational to our work – we actively aspire to dismantle -isms and -phobias, and partner with students to do the same in their areas of influence.
