Access and Borrowing

In accordance with COVID-19 campus policy, Ladd Library is open via card access to the Bates community only. Masks are optional within the building.

All Bates emeriti, current faculty and their affiliates; retirees, current staff and their affiliates; alumni and current students are welcome to visit the building in person with their Bates issued ID Card.

The general public may contact Research Librarians via email or chat to discuss research needs.

Ladd Library is open to the public. Items on open shelves are available for anyone to use in the library.

Materials may not be taken from the library without being checked out. All patrons must present the appropriate I.D. card for all library borrowing.

The Librarian reserves the right to limit the number of items borrowed by a user at any one time.

As a security measure, the library staff reserves the right to inspect backpacks, bags, etc. if the exit alarm sounds.
