Social activist to discuss spirituality at Bates

Kip Tiernan, founder of Rosie's Place for Women, the Greater Boston Food Bank and Healthcare for the Homeless, will discuss "A Social Activist's Perspective" as part of a new Bates College lecture series, "Spiritual Journeys: Stories of the Soul," at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 14, in the Benjamin Mays Center. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Ms. magazine editor to speak

Highlighting the 12th Annual Maine Women's Studies Conference at Bates College on Nov. 15 will be the 1 p.m. keynote address in the Chapel by Marcia Ann Gillespie, editor in chief of Ms. magazine. The day-long interdisciplinary program -- titled "Making Connections (Among and Between)" -- features papers, panels and workshops related to feminist research and political activism.

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Johnanes Brahms, pianists Frank Glazer and Duncan Cumming '93, will perform the third in a series of four Bates College concerts featuring the composer's complete works for solo piano at 3 p.m., Nov. 9, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend the performance free of charge.
