Bates alumni to convene for June reunion

Approximately 1,300 alumni, friends and family will convene at Bates College for the 1998 Reunion Weekend June 5-7.

Sultzes to exhibit collages, stoneware at Museum of Art

Two Dennysville artists will exhibit their work at the Bates College Museum of Art in an upper-gallery exhibit, "Phil Sultz: Painted Collage; Jan Sultz: Stoneware Forms," June 5-Aug. 15. An opening reception will be held June 5 at 7 p.m. in the museum located in the Olin Arts Center. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Psychology professor wins service-learning award

Georgia Nell Nigro, associate professor of psychology at Bates College, has been named one of two 1998 recipients of the Maine Campus Compact (MCC) Faculty Service-Learning Award, one of the most prestigious awards for community service in the state of Maine.

Fifteen area residents received bachelor's degrees during Bates College's 132nd commencement exercises Monday in an outdoor ceremony on the main quadrangle. Doris Kearns-Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, delivered the commencement address to an audience of some 3,000.
