Bates College orchestra to perform

The Bates College Orchestra, under the direction of William Matthews, the Alice Swanson Esty Professor of Music, will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Area residents receive Class of 1997 scholarships

Laura Deschaines of Auburn and Lynn Houston of Poland have been named recipients of a Bates College scholarship fund awarded annually to children of Bates employees.

Scholar to discuss "Death and Beyond: The Hope of Resurrection"

Gary Habermas, professor of philosophy and theology at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., will discuss "Death and Beyond: The Hope of Resurrection" in two separate Bates College lectures at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, in Hirasawa Lounge, Chase Hall and at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in Chase Hall Lounge, both at 56 Campus Ave. The public is invited to attend each of these Thomas F. Staley Foundation lectures, sponsored by the Bates College Christian Fellowship, free of charge.
