Bates holds annual fair

Bates College hosts its annual Graduate and Professional School Fair from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Clifton Daggett Gray Athletic Building, Central Avenue. The community is invited. There is no admission charge and no prior registration is required.

Expert on social power to speak at Bates

Pamela K. Smith, an expert on ways that social power affects cognitive abilities, gives a lecture titled "The Social Cognition of Power: From Abstract Thinking to Executive Functions" at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in the Keck Classroom (Room G52) of Pettingill Hall, 4 Andrews Road (Alumni Walk).

Painter who blends Japanese, European aesthetics to discuss her work

Takako Yamaguchi, a painter influenced by Western romanticism and a Japanese design aesthetic, speaks about her career in the visual arts at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in Olin Arts Center's Room 104, 75 Russell St. The event, which is open to the public at no cost, is sponsored by the Bates College Museum of Art. Barry Nemett, chair of the painting department at the Maryland Institute of Art, will speak about his work in conjunction with the Bates College Museum of Art exhibition "Barry Nemett: Drawings from Italy." The event has been rescheduled since it was first announced and will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in Room 104, Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St. Nemett's exhibition will open on Oct. 10, in conjunction with "Joel Babb: The Process Revealed."
