Folk singer and activist Peggy Seeger to perform in concert series

Singer, songwriter and activist Peggy Seeger will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors.

Maine Chamber Ensemble to perform

The Maine Music Society's Maine Chamber Ensemble will perform a concert of Haydn, Vivaldi and Carter at Bates College (Saturday) Sept. 25 at 8 p.m.in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. Tickets purchased in advance are $15 for adults and $14 for senior citizens. Admission at the door is $17.50 for both adults and seniors. Students may purchase tickets at half price, and admission for children 12 and under, accompanied by an adult, is free. Walter Slovenski, legendary track and cross country coach, dies at 79

Legendary Bates College track and cross country coach Walter Slovenski, 79, died Sept. 8 at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at the Bates Chapel on Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. followed by a reception at the Benjamin E. Mays Center on campus.

Harvard theologian opens spiritual journeys series

Rick Spalding, co-pastor of Boston's Church of the Covenant and Protestant chaplain at Harvard University, will discuss "Holy Dissonance: The Pleasures of Being a Religious Misfit at Bates College" from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in Skelton Lounge, Chase Hall. Rap artist Wyclef Jean to perform

Rap artist Wyclef Jean, whose recordings with the Fugees include the multi-platinum CD "The Score," will perform with the Refugee All Stars at Bates College at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in the Clifton Daggett Gray Athletic Building. Tickets are $22 and may be purchased through Bull Moose Music stores starting Thursday, Sept. 9. Pianist Frank Glazer to perform Handel, Scarlatti, others

Pianist Frank Glazer, artist in residence and lecturer in music since 1980, will perform a concert of works by Handel, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin and Brahms at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.

Noonday concert series opens

Catharsis to perform Contradance

Contradance band Catharsis will perform at Bates College (Friday) Sept. 10 at 8:30 p.m. in Chase Hall Lounge. Sponsored by the Bates Freewill Folk Society, the contradance will be called by John McIntyre. Soft- soled shoes are recommended, but not required. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The Bates Dance Festival presents two of America's most eloquent contemporary dance artists who will share the stage for an evening of imaginative and emotionally rich choreography and film Aug. 12 at 8 p.m in Schaeffer Theatre on the Bates College campus.
