Wednesday September 17, 1997 9:52 am	Playwright Carolyn Gage to speak at Bates Playwright Carolyn Gage, a longtime activist for women’s theater and lesbian theater, will deliver a lecture titled “Lizzy Borden and Lesbian Theater: Axes to Grind” at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 2, in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives, 70 Campus Ave. The public is invited and admission is free.
Friday September 12, 1997 3:53 pm	Theater at Bates stages six performances of "The Ugly Ducklings" Theater at Bates will stage the world premiere of Carolyn Gage’s “The Ugly Ducklings” at 6 p.m. on September 26 in Gannett Theater. Lauren Todd, a Bates junior from Cherry Valley, Mass., is directing the drama about the destructive effects of homophobia on girls and young women. The play also will be performed at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2 p.m. on Sept. 28, 8 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 4, and 2 p.m. on Oct. 5. Tickets are $2 for general admission and may be purchased at the box office. For reservations and additional ticket information, call the box office at 207-786-6161.
