Requirements and Assessment

Reporting Requirements and Assessment

The college is committed to providing the most valuable research experience possible for students, and to that end, assesses research programs in a variety of ways.

If you have received funding through the dean of the faculty’s office to support summer research, you are required to complete the following assessments:

1) An abstract and final report. The abstract should be no more than 120 words, and should include the scope of your research, the central research questions, and methodology. The report should be a two-page narrative assessment of your research experience. As many summer research projects are ongoing, you are not required to report research results; however, you are asked to reflect on the research experience, what you learned about the area of inquiry, what skills you developed, and how the research relates to your other academic work. The abstract and report are due within two weeks of the end of your summer research.

2) SURE III Survey. All Bates summer researchers are required to complete the SURE III Survey, an online national undergraduate research experience survey. Summer researchers receive an email with information on accessing the survey.
